Casting procedures

Please read and familiarize yourself with our procedures concerning auditions and casting:
Auditions are hard. We sincerely appreciate the courage it takes to put yourself on the line and to risk what feels like rejection if you don’t get the role you want, or even a part in a show. We also know that the casting decisions we make will inevitably disappoint some of you.

We are committed to keeping the education in educational theatre, and so we want to offer every student an opportunity to learn from their audition experience. One way we do this is by providing all Stage Raider auditioners feedback about their audition.
How do we do this? The following is meant to help students and their parents know just what they can expect from us once a cast list has been posted, and what in turn we expect of them.

What we won’t do:
  1. Reconsider a casting decision. Once a casting decision has been made, it is final. The casting director will not offer explanations for, entertain complaints about, or discuss in any way the decisions that have been made with anyone.
  2. Discuss the larger casting decisions with parents. Although we are happy to share the same feedback about your student auditioner that we share with them, we will not discuss the audition of another student(s). This is a matter of basic privacy, and you can rest assured that your student auditioner will not be discussed with other parents.

What we will do:
  1. Provide written feedback to student inquiries about the audition. If a student wishes to receive written feedback about his/her audition, he/she is welcome to write an email to jbishop@habershamschools.com and the director will respond to him/her with a personal email as soon as he is able after casting is completed (this may take several days, so please be patient with us). The response will include kind and constructive criticism regarding a student’s audition, and specific advice about where to most effectively direct efforts for improvement.
  2. Help describe what does go into casting a show. Casting is a challenging and complicated process, involving multiple variables. A number of key elements that go into a casting decision are simply out of a student’s control. By the same token, we would like students to know what elements they can control and improve upon.
  3. Encourage ongoing training. Finally, we urge students to continue their training through workshops and classes whenever possible and will happily point any student toward upcoming opportunities at Habersham Central and elsewhere. We believe it is much more productive and effective to work on one’s performance skills when the pressure of auditioning is not looming ahead.
Thank you for auditioning for the Habersham Stage Raiders!

3rd Block

Whew! This was a hard one. We had barely enough people to make this work. There will essentially be two casts, because, you know, COVID. I’m making some pretty serious demands of you here, but I think all of you will really rise to the challenge. (Anna-Jewell, for example, is being asked to learn two major roles and she’s not the only one.) But we have to maintain flexibility, because any one of us could go out for a 10-day quarantine at any time.

A note about figures. With the exception of figure 3 and 15, if there is an asterisk by your name, that means that this figure number is your principal figure. The figures you have been assigned in addition to your primary figure may shift and change a bit this week. Consider any figure number without an asterisk to be tentative and subject to change over this week.

Congrats! Now the work begins.
